It enables you to make the changes you need to, so you can get clarity, move forwards, and grow your service business with ease.
Here are 5 reasons why you feel stuck when marketing a service business:
1. You’re lacking clarity and direction
One of the most common reasons why you feel stuck when it comes to marketing is because you don’t have clarity around what you’re trying to achieve.
And, when you don’t have clarity, it’s near impossible to decide what you should focus on next.
So, you end up spinning around in circles and feeling stuck in the same place.
However, when you set marketing goals and objectives, it will provide you with the clarity and direction you need to make decisions and move forwards in your service business.
To ensure your goals are appropriate and achievable, I recommend setting goals that are specific, measurable, actionable, realistic, and timely.

2. You haven’t done enough target market research
New service business owners often skip over this step too quickly or don’t complete it well at all.
But it’s an essential marketing step that will enable you to truly understand your ideal clients.
With more target market research, you’ll uncover your client’s pain points, wants, and fears which will help you to figure out what you should offer to your clients.

3. You’re listening to too many experts at once
This is something that I too have caught myself doing in the past!
When it comes to marketing a service business, there are so many different experts out there because there are so many different areas of marketing.
However, how do you know which is the right type of marketing is best for your business?
And who you should listen to, so you’re marketing is on the right path?
In my experience, I’ve felt a lot less overwhelm (and achieved a lot more success) when I’ve been learning from one coach or mentor at a time.
The main reason for this, is because the steps that each person teaches builds upon the next.
So, you don’t end up doing things in the wrong order or skipping parts which are essential for success.
There’s nothing wrong with learning from multiple people because there are lots of experts out there who teach some amazing strategies.
However, I recommend learning from them one at a time so you can reduce the overwhelm and noise which only leads to confuse and distract you.
4. You’ve accidently skipped some foundational marketing steps
I often hear from small business owners who’ve never had to market their business before, that they just didn’t know what they didn’t know.
Which is completely understandable because there are lots of different ways to market a service business.
However, there are some foundational marketing steps that are essential if you want to attract consistent clients and build a sustainable business.
And the fastest way to put these in place is to make sure that you’re implementing them in the right order, so that you don’t have to work backwards when you get stuck.
If you skip ahead and try to implement a particular marketing campaign before you’ve worked out who your target market is or what your marketing strategy includes, then you’ll eventually hit a barrier when it comes to achieving success.
So, to avoid getting to this stage where you feel stuck, I recommend reviewing your marketing and closing any gaps to give you a solid marketing foundation.

5. You haven’t yet developed an integrated marketing strategy and plan
I had a client tell me once that “their marketing felt like confetti”.
They had lots of different parts and pieces, but it felt impossible to piece it all together in the right way.
She was feeling quite stuck, because she knew she didn’t have an integrated marketing strategy and plan that would bring all her marketing activities together well.
If you’re unsure what a marketing strategy consists of, there are three main elements:
- Who you’re marketing to (your target market)
- What you’re selling (your services)
- What sets you apart from your competition (unique value)
When you’ve got clarity in these areas above you can develop an integrated marketing strategy and plan that sets your business up for success.
